This year’s exhibition is almost upon us!

The canal boat 107b is almost ready to roll once more. The first mooring this year will be in Athy, Co. Kildare, on May 30th, where Sonairte will give a presentation describing their work. The other contributers for the summer of 2011 are Carson and Crushell Architects, Solearth, Architectural Farm with Michael Carroll, and Caelan Bristow. The timetable for this year’s exhibition is as follows:
May 30-June 3 – Athy mooring – Sonairte presenting
June 4-6 – Carlow mooring – Carson & Crushell presenting
June 13-17 – Muinebeag (Bagnelstown) mooring – Solearth presenting
June 20-24 – Graignamanagh mooring – Architectural Farm with Michael Carroll, presenting
June 27-30 – New Ross mooring – Caelan Bristow presenting
June 30-July 3 – Waterford mooring – public opening July 2, details tbc
The second Slow Architecture Exhibition (2011) will take place this spring and summer, and we are looking for submissions now. For more details on submission requirements please go to the Exhibition tab. The deadline is January 30th.
Last year’s exhibition was a fantastic success, and was finished off with a lively discussion at the Waterways Visitors Centre in Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, last October. We have posted a few images of the 2010 exhibition from on board the 107b below.



The 107b at last reaches Dublin!

Join us on the evening of October 29th, at the Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre, Grand Canal Quay, Dublin 2. See the official invite below:

Things kick off at 6.00pm with a brief welcome from the Slow Architecture Exhibition curator-in-chief Mike Haslam. The theme of the evening will be set with an introduction from architect Michelle Fagan, before the official opening by Minister of State Ciaran Cuffe.
There will follow an open panel discussion with the exhibitors Sean Harrington, Caelan Bristow, Michael Carroll, Marcus Donaghy & Will Dimond, Susan Jane Dunford, Roisin de Buitlear and Emmet Kenny.
This discussion will be facilitated by architect Donal Hickey, and will be open for comments from the floor. Afterwards, everyone is welcome to visit the exhibition boat docked next door. Hope to see you all there!

The Slow Exhibition has meandered its way through Belmont Mills, Tullamore and Daingean – next stop Edenderry. Thanks to everybody who has come to see us and for all who got involved with the exhibits and ensuing discussions.

Friday is proposed as school’s day and Saturday for general public.

Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry for the slow architecture exhibition. We have had a difficult time whittling down the contributions, but will release the final list of winners after Easter.
The exhibition will now be taking place in early September 2010 – we should have a firmer grasp of the dates soon.
The route has been modified a little – the new route will run as shown below:

The exhibition will look the notion of ’slow architecture’ in Ireland today and seek the establishment of a set of principles towards its promotion.
In Spring 2010 the exhibition will follow the Grand Canal from Belmont, Co. Offaly as far as the Grand Canal basin in Dublin. A specially fitted out canal boat will host the exhibition, and it will exhibit at a number of settlements along the route.
